AJANTA CAVES IN MAHARASHTRA

The Ajanta caves located in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. It is called the Buddhist cave monuments from 2nd century. It includes the caves full of wonderful paintings and sculptures which describes the Archaeological Survey of India. It is about 100 Km from the Ellora caves. There are more than number of  28 caves . Many touristers use to visit the places day to day. The particular number of caves 9,10,12,13 and 15 A are consists of Walter Spink and made during the period of Satavahana dynasty of 100 BCE to 
100 CE. 

1) Cave 1 is the first cave the visitors enters. It was built on the eastern end of the horse-shoe shaped.

2) Cave 2 has a slight difference from cave 1. The caves all supported by robust pillars and ornamented with designs.

3) Cave 4 consists of details of Archaeological survey of India
board. It was not furnished and largest monastery planned and contains Buddha's image.

4) Cave 3 was soon abondoned at the end of the final period. 

5) Cave 5 and 6 are viharas and consists of two floors and which is the lower floor of cave 6 was unfinished.

6) Caves 9-10 are the two chaitya halls. It was not completed in the first period of construction and was reworking at the end of the second period.

The other places you can visit in Ajanta caves are Barabar caves and Sigiriya Fresco in Sri Lanka.
