Scientist in China tested the first vaccine which protects children
from Hand, Foot and Mouth diseases. The disease which causes blister and rashes in Hand, Foot and Mouth and even some times it affects the brain which may leads to death.
The vaccine which is tested among ten thousands of children shows the effect of 90% of children protection against the diseases. But the vaccine shows no result against other virus. In 2009, China faces a major problem in Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease which affects 1.2 million people around 14,000 people were severely affected and 353 people died at that time.
In Beijing a team of scientist research and tested a vaccine made from Enterovirus 71 (EV71) which spread the diseases. Two dose of vaccine was given to children between the age of 6 to 35 months old shows 90% effective in prevention against the diseases by the vaccine EV71. The vaccine EV71 help the children from death in severe cases, scientist said.
The Hand, Foot and Mouth disease is caused by many virus such as CoxSackievirus A16. So this vaccine will not eradicate the disease.
The scientist gave a caution that EV71 vaccine will reduce the symptoms in Hand,Foot and Mouth diseases, by Universal Mass Immunization of children.
The important thing about this vaccine is it reduces the hospitalization to the children in severe cases.
